Facebook being all about sharing, lends not only to sharing your musical tastes, but to your preference in movies. That’s where Flixster’s Movies on Facebook application comes in.

The Flixster interface is simple enough. As you start using it you are informed of the percentage of your profile that is complete. Flixster will walk you through the steps to completing your profile. The steps range from simply adding a profile box, to adding favorites, for example. You are even able to take a Movie Compatibility Test, and compare your taste in movies with your friends!

The Compatibility Test takes you to a list of movies that vary in genres. It offers you to rate the movies from 1/2 to 5 stars. Once you complete the list, you can choose friends that are also using the app to see how your taste in these movies compare. While it is an interesting way to gage how your tastes stack up with your friends, the test cannot be considered 100% accurate.

The Flixter application for Facebook looks like this:

The main screen gives you easy access to tabs that allow you to go directly to your profile or check out movie show times, trailers and quizzes. There are also tabs for checking in on your Flixster friends, viewing your Compatibility test results and Quickrating any movie that shows up in the corresponding page. This last feature really struck me as a promotion for upcoming movies as I have not been shown a movie that has already been released yet. This may not be the case, but all I saw were movies that were coming soon.

The main page also shows you movies that are opening this week. It lists shows the top box office films as well. These categories give you the option of clicking ‘I want to see it’ or ‘Not interested.’ The 5 Star rating feature is there, too. The right hand column shows you show times, Recent DVD Releases and Quizzes, much like the tabs at the top of the page.

All-in-all, it’s a good application. It doesn’t offer much depth, but is involving enough when you see how your tastes shape up against other friends, at least for a bit. I found having the functionality and gathering of information all in the context of my Facebook home a mostly satisfactory experience.

Qik, the live mobile video streaming service has announced that they now offer connectivity with Facebook.

What Qik does is allow you to stream video from your Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian phone or Windows Mobile phone to the Qik website for others to view.

Mind you, Qik does not have an application for Facebook, but simply allows you to post your Qik videos to you Facebook account via Facebook Connect. Once connected, you can upload your Qik videos directly to Facebook, as well as comment on the videos.

When you find a new friend on Qik to follow, you can let all of you Facebook friends know about it, too. As long as you have a Facebook session open, Qik will let you in without having to log in each time you wish to access Qik. If you have a Qik compatible phone and like feel like sharing some video from wherever you may be, open up a Qik account, connect it to your Facebook and give it a shot.

As a user of both Facebook and Twitter, I find the Twitter app for Facebook to be a convenient tool for keeping up with my Tweets without having to veer away from Facebook. While many folks are happy using desktop apps for Twitter, such as the Adobe Air app TweetDeck, I have found that the simplicity of Twitter on Facebook to be just what I need. For Mobile separate Twitter and Facebook applications work best When I am away from the desk, I am constantly checking my Facebook from my Blackberry. Although Facebook for Blackberry does the job in the most spartan of manners, it is severely lacking in any deeper functionality. My Blackberry is also home to an application that allows me access to Twitter. So, having them both in one place, albeit on different apps on the Blackberry is convenient whilst out and about. For Home Computing The Twitter Application for Facebook can be Useful Things are a bit different for me while surfing the web from home. I spend about nine hours per day at work and after that I have torture session at the gym and life as a husband and father. My time is valuable, so when I sit down at my desk, I want to get on Facebook and be able to access as many features from within it as possible. I was happy to try Twitter for Facebook as it promised to allow me easy access to Twitter from my own Facebook account. Let me say this for starters: for those that use apps for AIR like TweetDeck or Twhirl, Twitter for Facebook does not quite compare in function and usability. The Twitter app within Facebook also has a button that will give Twitter permission to update your Facebook status (in the top right corner of the image above). Clicking this button will allow you to show your Facebook friends what you’re tweeting on Twitter while still being able to post Facebook only updates. Conclusion The Twitter application on Facebook is a quick and efficient way to see what’s happening in your Twitter timeline and to quickly access your main page on Twitter, along with links to your settings and your profile. For many Facebook users that are interested in, or just starting with Twitter, the Twitter application for Facebook is a nice little addition to your Facebook.

The vast majority of us have photos on our Facebook page. For those of us who are Flickr users, many of us are quite familiar with Picnik.

Picnik for Facebook is a free set of web-based tools used for quick and very easy photo editing. I am by no means a professional photographer and Photshop absolutely baffles me, so Picnik is perfect for me.

The Picnik interface is rather straightforward, as you can see below. After you choose a photo to edit, it will load up the main picnik screen, and the photo will load beneath the toolbar shown below. The eight main buttons allow you to performs individual actions ranging from rotating the photo to telling Picnik to auto-fix the picture itself. I find that, for my needs, the auto-fix function works well, correcting lighting, red-eye and contrast, to name a few. For the uninitiated, rest assured that whole whole process is quite simple.

Once you’ve edited the photo to your satisfaction, you can either save a new copy of it or you can copy over the original. All in all, Picnik is a fun and simple little app for Facebook users to manipulate their pics. Take some time to try Picnik’s features and I’m confident that you will have your Facebook photos looking a lot better in no time!

Seesmic for Facebook is an Air application that will let you see the status updates of your friends, as well as update your own. It is a simple application that really is just for updating your status as well as reading the status updates of others.

As it uses Facebook Connect to update, there is no need to be on the main Facebook web page. All you need is Adobe Air. From there, you just download the Seesmic for Facebook file and install it within Air. After that, you let it connect with your Facebook account and you’re set.

I tried this app for a full week and while it worked pretty well, there were a few bugs. Upon the initial installation, it had some hiccups when trying to connect to my Facebook account. After a couple of tries, I was in and running right along. Sometimes, the updates would get hung but, for the most part, it was still a pretty favorable experience. As Seesmic also makes the Twhirl application, there is word that the two apps will be merged into a single one.

If you prefer checking the status updates of your friends and updating your own without popping in and out of the Facebook main page all of the time, give Seesmic for Facebook a try. You may find its singular focus on staying caught-up on status updates to be just what you’re looking for.

I’ve been searching for a Facebook application that lets you share the full version of songs within your feed. While applications like iLike provide licensed 30 second samples, none of the applications that I’ve found make it easy to share full songs directly to your feed. There previously was the Music application which let you post full songs but that was disabled in a short amount of time as it violated Facebook terms and a little thing called “the law”.

The Share Song application has been developed by Grooveshark and enables users to share any song that currently exists in the Grooveshark library. The company states that they currently have over 10 million songs in their library. I’m assuming that the company has licensed the songs to have them played within users’ feeds. However the legal aspects have been handled this company apparently feels comfortable enough to post this on Facebook.

The application has already been spreading relatively quickly. The company claims that over 2,500 users have used the application in the past week even though Facebook’s numbers report under 2,000. Regardless of the discrepancy in the number of users, this application should spread to hundreds of thousands of users if not millions. Considering that Grooveshark is a smaller company than iLike, you have to wonder what legal issues exist though.

I’ve found plenty of popular songs that can be played in my feed. Music on the web has been a complex issue as many times the big artists tend to be on the losing end of any deal. Music piracy hasn’t declined a substantial amount though. Bittorrent is a well known source of just about any song or movie and users of Bittorrent providers don’t typically pay for the service. While the digital music space is still trying to figure itself out, the Grooveshark guys think they have a solution.

Searching, as I do, for a non-useless application, I was thrilled to find GoAnimate! To put it simply, the app lets you create your own animation which can be a real blast. The app has some serious programming behind it and provides a ton of fun if you have time to play around.

You get to pick from a bunch of pre-made images, settings, items, speech bubbles, music, animations and special effects, and you can customize them however you want. You then animate your frames and make some funny stuff go down. The app has a political bend, with tons of politically charged characters to choose from like “Barack O.” and “Hilary C.” but you can also upload your own images or borrow uploaded images from others in the community.

After you’re finished with your animations, you can share them with the community. Honestly, his application might be the absolute coolest thing I’ve seen on Facebook so far.

This Blog Post is a tutorial about how to install a Profile Box Button Widget to your Facebook Profile. By installing the Profile Box Application you are able to add custom html to your facebook profile page. By inserting links to your on-line profiles and copying the code in the post below you will be able to give your friends an easy way to connect with you on Twitter, Linkedin, and friendfeed. When the widget is installed it will look like this:

The first thing you will need to do to install the Facebook Profile Box Button Widget is to search for and find the “Profile Box” application

Next you will need to install the “Profile Box” Application. Once “Profile Box” installed click on “Go to Application” (see image below)

After you click “Go to the Application” you will see a text box where you can insert code. This box is shown in the image below.

You can always refer back to this post for the code needed to install a button you do not have at a later date.
